2.1 ROLES OF CENTRE HALF
Default Pass Pass ball to inside right
a) Mark Marks opposition Centre Forward ie Tackles back
on opposition CF
where can while our Full Back tackles. Our Full Back releases opposition CF
to you (CH) once you get back into our circle to defend.
- Marks opposition CH in Midfield.
- Marks CH opposition 16 yd hits so our CF can be in the wall.
b) Lock - CH passes ball then moves up field behind the ball to "lock" ball in.
c) Primary Passes If ball comes from right pass to our IL. If
ball comes from
the left then pass to our IR.
d) Emergency Trap Door -CH positions herself inside
(never leave centre of field
open for opposition to use) of field so that whenever a team-mate is in a tight
situation
CH is an available option (often to rebound ball off). Position self with 10 m
square around
so you have space to move once you get ball. Dispose of ball immediately
( as usually in unsafe area of field) or move sideways 5 m to hole then dispose of.
e) Defends Top of our Circle -Stops opposition IL passing to IR.
Channels
opposition IR and IL from top of circle.
Does not crowd back on our Full Back.
Guards top of circle by being ready and close but still marks up man to man.
f) Holds Middle Does not position self on side of
ground because middle would be
left open for opponents to use. (consider with reference to d and e above)
g) Calls/controls game CH encourages team-mates and
reminds them when they are
not acting as expected. (therefore needs to know roles of all players).
CH calls moves and tells team-mates of options available.
Usually a pusher of the ball rather than a hard hitter as she is building
(constructing)
an attack in the early stages.
h) Push Back First option is to Right Half but not before
draw opponents
or dummying ball to other position. Always be well back from centre line directly back
from centre to give self plenty of time before opponent reaches you.
j) Free hits outside circle see separate section
k) Free hits in mid-field see separate section.
